This article analyzes the role of multimedia tools in developing listening comprehension in ESL classrooms. Listening is one of the most important language skills because it provides learners with spoken input, supports vocabulary acquisition, improves pronunciation awareness, and prepares students for real-life communication. However, many ESL learners experience difficulties in listening because of fast speech, different accents, connected sounds, unfamiliar vocabulary, limited background knowledge, and lack of concentration. The article argues that multimedia tools such as videos, podcasts, online platforms, subtitles, interactive exercises, and language learning applications can make listening instruction more effective, realistic, and motivating. Multimedia materials combine sound, visual context, and interaction, helping learners understand spoken language through both auditory and visual channels. At the same time, the article discusses possible challenges, including technical problems, distraction, passive learning, and insufficient teacher training. The study concludes that multimedia tools are most effective when they are used systematically through pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening activities and when teachers guide students toward active, purposeful, and independent listening practice.
