Annotatsiya
This article explores the theoretical and linguistic basis of figurative (artistic) language devices widely used in literary discourse. Such expressive means as metaphor, metonymy, symbol, epithet, irony, hyperbole, and personification constitute the core of imaginative language. The study examines their semantic, stylistic, and cognitive functions while also reviewing historical approaches to their interpretation. By integrating classical rhetoric with modern linguistic theories, the paper demonstrates that figurative language is a complex and multi-layered phenomenon that plays a key role in constructing artistic meaning and enhancing textual expressiveness.
